Soft-Body Dynamics — 3D Animation

The Soft body animation explores how a deformable object can navigate a rigid obstacle course while keeping natural, organic movement.

3D Personal project 2022

This project explores a soft-body simulation inside a clearly defined obstacle course.

Cinema 4D treats the central sphere as a flexible object. The simulation lets it compress, stretch, rebound and change direction as it hits the surrounding geometry.

The main challenge was to balance softness, speed and control. A rigid sphere lost the elastic character, while an overly soft one collapsed or became unstable.

Therefore, the project refined both the simulation settings and the obstacle layout. The rigid objects guide the sphere through the course while still allowing spontaneous reactions.

Next, the timing, camera and composition follow the physics rather than forcing the simulation into a fixed edit. Simple materials and graphic lighting keep every deformation easy to read.

Adobe After Effects then supports the final compositing and refinement.

The finished Soft body animation combines controlled art direction with simulation-driven motion. The object’s physical behaviour remains the central visual idea.
