Martian Landscape — 3D Environment and Animation

A personal 3D environment project exploring the creation of a cinematic Martian landscape through terrain design, texturing, lighting, atmosphere and character animation.

3D Personal project 2021

This personal project was created as a full 3D environment study inspired by the surface of Mars, combining procedural terrain creation, atmospheric lighting and animation.

The landscape was developed to evoke the harsh, dusty appearance of the Martian surface, with a strong focus on rocky terrain, surface detail and the warm orange tones typically associated with Mars. Textures, lighting and camera composition were carefully built to create a believable sense of scale and atmosphere.

Alongside the environment work, I animated an astronaut performing a material collection or inspection sequence, adding narrative interest and a sense of purpose to the scene. A Mars rover model was also positioned within the landscape to reinforce the exploration theme and help establish a more convincing planetary setting.

The scene was created in Cinema 4D and rendered with Arnold, with compositing and final editing completed in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro.
