Luminous Trails – Procedural Geometry Animation
A personal 3D motion study using Blender Geometry Nodes to generate flowing luminous trails through procedural geometry, movement and emission-based materials.

This personal project explores the use of Blender Geometry Nodes to create a dense network of luminous trails moving organically through three-dimensional space.
The main challenge was to generate a large number of flowing elements while maintaining enough variation in their shape, scale and movement to avoid the composition feeling repetitive or mechanically generated.
Geometry Nodes was used to build and control the procedural system, allowing the trails to develop from a shared setup while retaining individual differences in curvature, position and motion. This made it possible to create a complex visual structure without manually modelling or animating every element.
Particular attention was given to the balance between density and readability. With many overlapping trails occupying the frame, the composition needed enough depth and separation to preserve the individual forms while still creating the impression of a continuous flowing network.
Emission and reflective surface treatment were used to create the luminous blue appearance, with highlights moving across the geometry as the forms travel through the scene.
The 3D animation was created in Blender using Geometry Nodes, with compositing and visual refinement completed in Adobe After Effects. Final editing and sound were completed in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The project was developed as a personal learning exercise inspired by a Ducky 3D tutorial, then adapted through its own visual treatment, composition, materials and final presentation.
